Watercolour Sweet Pea 2 Tutorial

This is a follow-up to the beginner Sweet Pea tutorial that can also be done separately. Same lovely subject, but in this one, we’ll slow things down and take it further. We’ll work on refining your brushwork, deepening your colour, and building more dimension in the petals.

You’ll use a combination of:

  • wet-on-wet,
  • wet-on-dry, 
  • some gentle glazing to develop soft shadows. 


It’s a great next step if you’ve done the beginner version and want to keep improving.

The tutorial includes 9 progress photos, a downloadable reference image, and a full supplies list with colour substitutes listed for Schmincke, Winsor & Newton, and Daniel Smith.

Take your time, enjoy the process, and see how far you’ve come.

Louise has been passionate about watercolours since 2011. She has sold paintings worldwide, licensed her work, and even co-written a book about painting sea life in watercolour.
