Welcome to the "Black Cockatoo" tutorial, a two-part series focused on capturing the unique beauty of this striking bird. This class is an exploration of colour mixing and watercolour techniques, suitable for those looking to deepen their understanding of painting birds.

In this tutorial you will mix two colours to make black.

You'll paint a simple background splash of colour behind part of the Cockatoo and you'll wash all the feathers in at once.

Once the initial wash is dry, you'll add some feather detail over the top. You will use both the wet on wet technique and the wet on dry technique throughout the painting.

All necessary files, including the reference photo taken by Louise are included.

This tutorial offers a chance to delve into the subtleties of painting feathers and bird anatomy, bringing out the character of the Black Cockatoo.

Louise De Masi is a professional artist and qualified teacher with over 23 years experience. She is based in the gorgeous Mid North Coast of NSW, Australia.

Louise has been passionate about watercolours since 2011. She has sold paintings worldwide, licensed her work, and even co-written a book about painting sea life in watercolour.
